Extreme: Rocky Balboa of corporate networks

In my spare time, I like to draw anything that fascinates me. So when I learned of Extreme Networks’ success in being placed as a Leader in the Gartner® Magic QuadrantMT for corporate wired and wireless LAN infrastructure for the fourth year in a row i immediately started drawing Rocky balboa, the character of the famous movie “Rocky”. A glance at Rocky’s intense eyes showed why he was able to strike over his weight. His focus and work ethic helped him turn the tide of being an unknown entity to become a superb fighter who ultimately won many fights. When it comes to corporate networking, Extreme Networks isn’t necessarily as well-known as the brash, undefeated champ. Apollo’s Creed. However, Extreme Networks is a proven competitor with championship success and significant momentum from us. Our competitors are 10 to 100 times bigger in terms of market capitalization. We believe we are the Rocky Balboa in this space. Our relentless focus on execution towards the Infinite business vision will lead us to success.

Extreme Networks’s mission is to reduce the complexity of operating increasingly distributed networks on a large scale. Over the past few years, Extreme has continued to deliver on our vision with superb execution. As shown in Figure 1, the latest mark of success is to position itself as a leader in the 2021 Magic Quadrant for wireline and wireless businesses.

Here are the top reasons customers and partners are adopting Extreme Networks:

Leadership in cloud architecture: Extreme Networks is the only vendor with a cloud-independent architecture that gives customers the same functionality regardless of their choice of cloud provider or cloud location. Customers can manage their corporate network environment from Extreme cloudIQ hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services (AWS). This deployment can be done in the public, private, or on-premises cloud. To ensure the highest levels of information systems and data protection, management and compliance, the ExtremeCloud IQ cloud platform complies with ISO / IEC 27017 and is certified by DQS according to ISO / IEC 27001 and ISO / IEC 27701 by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Plus, while every enterprise vendor claims telemetry data is the source of their artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), they limit the data to a few weeks. The more telemetry data companies can leverage, the more informed their decision-making could be and the more opportunity they have to optimize operations and improve the customer experience. Wouldn’t it be great to compare the analysis trends in retail store footfall over the past few years? What about comparing network performance between software upgrades? Would you like to compare the lines of traffic between bank tellers over time? What about comparing network scans between device upgrades over multiple months / years? How about comparing the performance since refreshing your network to the latest product line? Do you want to compare the thugs, the disruptors on several fronts? Therefore, unlimited data is important!

ExtremeCloud IQ offers the industry’s first unlimited data plan, which means our customers have access to all of their historical data sets throughout their service contract. This enables customers to make data-driven decisions. To learn more about this, please see this white paper.

Data-driven decision making: Discussions about AI / ML are so prevalent in the industry that it’s hard to identify when it adds value or where it has a place in history. Extreme’s approach is unique in the industry. You should know that Extreme is the 2nd largest and fastest growing cloud network company and the only cloud network company to give you unlimited data. We help organizations not only by using the power of analytics to harness and process data faster, smarter, and more efficiently, but by making it understandable. Therefore, the next AI superpower is explainability, which primarily relies on the choice of algorithms used to predict and manage anomalies. To learn more about explainability, see this Blog.

Co-pilot offers you an overview of the entire network, license consumption, anomalies associated with users, network and devices. Given the complexity of computer networks and the extent of the anomalies observed, CoPilot divides the observations into two areas: network-wide problems and localized network problems. Emphasis is placed on critical but frequent issues with DHCP, DNS, and RADIUS that could disrupt wireless communications. Ethernet cable, PoE, and multicast data anomalies can also impact user experience. Some of the issues introduced are related to connectivity support, such as Wi-Fi capability and Wi-Fi efficiency. Other issues may be related to connectivity between various devices. For example, PoE Efficiency or Port Efficiency, which determines whether the switch port to which the Wi-Fi 6E access point is connected, provides consistent PoE and Backhaul speed. Simple explanations provide tips for identifying the root cause of the anomaly, checking the anomaly with network data, and resolving the problem.

Deployment flexibility with universal platforms and licenses: Customers can decide to manage their offerings on premise today and move to the cloud tomorrow. Our architecture decouples the software from the underlying hardware and allows us to offer a single universal hardware platform coupled with a single license for deployment in any mode.
