On Thursday, April 14, the Oakland University Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) will host its annual networking night, this year in conjunction with the American Marketing Association at OU (AMA).
The event, titled Mocktail Networking Night, will give students the opportunity to network with local professionals in public relations, communications, marketing, human resources and related fields.
“Mocktail Networking Night has been a great PRSSA tradition since 2019. We had to cancel it in 2020 and host a virtual one in 2021 due to COVID-19. We are ready to come back in person this year,” said PRSSA Assistant Professor and Academic Advisor Dr. Chiaoning Su.
The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Founders Ballroom A at the Oakland Center and will host approximately 15 professionals in public relations, advertising, marketing, communications and related fields. Representatives of organizations such as Stellantide (formerly Chrysler), Comcast, TIME Media, stratacom, Smith Group, J9 multimedia solutions, Green Room Communications, 24G Digital Agency and others are ready to attend.
“The goal of this event is to provide students with the opportunity to connect with professionals in their area of interest, while practicing their professionalism and networking skills,” said Emily Osani, Vice President of the OR section of PRSSA.
This year the event is supported by the Detroit Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), which makes the evening a great opportunity not only for the students, but also for the UO as a community.
“The goal is for students to forge meaningful connections with professionals to advance their careers. In the meantime, it’s also a great opportunity to amplify UO’s presence and brand in the Detroit metro area,” Su said.
During the event, which is open to all, students attendees will rotate in groups in a “speed dating” format to network with professionals and ask questions in a conversational setting. Light appetizers, desserts and refreshments will be offered.
Participants are advised to dress in professional attire and bring printed copies of their CVs to distribute to professionals with whom they are in contact. Those interested in attending the event can RSVP on GrizzOrgs.
PRSSA previously held its Coffee, Cocktails and Connection virtual event with Michigan State, Grand Valley, Central Michigan, UM Dearborn and Wayne State – a more casual networking evening to get to know some of the other Michigan PRSSA chapters. They also recently held the second round of their popular professional headshot event, Headshot Happy Hour.
